A little bit of whimsy and oh so shiny! These gorgeous glass beads, handcrafted in Vancouver, BC by Treats Jewellery, have a finish smiliar to that of raku pottery, but instead they are made with lustre glass.
To produce these attractive earrings, lustre glass is wound around a metal mandrel and melted in a flame (just like regular glass). But then, to create the beautiful shine, the gas is turned up in the flame and the oxygen is turned down. This process forces the metal in the glass to oxidize at the surface. The shine that results will be dependent on the temperature of the flame and colour of the glass. You never know what you're going to get - just like with raku pottery. One thing is for sure, however; it's always beautiful and a one-of-a-kind indulgence for your ears! Makes a great polishing touch to your casual or business outfit!
